The destruction of the glacier in the core zone under the Nanda Devi National Park in Chamoli, Uttarakhand has caused havoc. According to reports, the dam of the Rishi Ganga Tapovan Hydro Project near Raini village has broken, causing damage. The glacier breakdown has created a flood-like situation. At least 300 people are feared to be flowing. It also includes many laborers. Teams of district administration and police administration have reached the spot. SDRF also left for the spot. The administration has issued a high alert till Haridwar. CM Trivendra Rawat will reach the disaster affected area.
According to the information, a 24 MW project was under construction near Rainy village. Glacier breakdown has led to flood-like conditions in the river. Water police and SDRF have been alerted in Rishikesh Kodiala Eco Tourism Zone. Disaster management teams along with water police have reached the rafting sites. In Chamoli and Rudraprayag districts, the administration has issued an alert at all the places along the river. At the same time, orders have been issued to take the people living in the riverbank settlements to high altitude areas.
